Cormac Update on Promenade & Bay-to-Bay Scheme

"Subject: Penzance Promenade and Bay to Bay Update"

Dear All

"Firstly, I hope you’re all well, staying safe and enjoyed a Happy New Year. With 2021 beginning under lockdown, we have must again adapt our construction sites to keep them  operational, whilst safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our colleagues and the public.

We want to reassure you that both the Penzance Promenade and Bay to Bay schemes have recommenced, with comprehensive measures in place to minimise the risk of spread of infection. Based on guidance from health authorities, industry Health & Safety advisors and the Government’s Global Pandemic Task Force, additional and comprehensive safe working procedures and systems will be implemented, including social distancing, appropriate PPE and if required, self-isolation. We may therefore have a reduced site presence at times, while we manage these additional procedures and the programme of work could be subject to some change.

On the Mounts Bay Coastpath, we are currently working on the sections from the Eastern Green pedestrian bridge to Penzance Railway Station – and from Marazion car park, to the concrete beach access slope, by the former public toilets building. If weather conditions are favourable, this will take us in to February, when the further sections will commence sequentially, keeping as much of the route open as is possible, at all times.

We have experienced a few problems, when some users of the path breach the safety barriers that cordon off the sections we’re working on. Please can I ask you to help us to spread the word amongst your communities and ask the public to distance themselves from our actual sites, in order to protect themselves and allow work to progress unhindered. Many thanks.

The final stages of works on the Promenade are coming to completion. The majority is now open to the public, with some localised areas cordoned-off to allow surface texturing to the concrete and the grit-blasting of the moon phase designs. The pebble seats have been installed, and there are a few more aluminium benches arriving this week. Following this later in the year, the refurbishment of the two promenade shelters will be carried out. This includes include provision of lighting, new concrete bases, roof repairs, repointing of stonework, repainting, new seating and installation of information boards. The shelters will of course need to be secured from public access whilst works are underway.

As always, we will do our best to minimise any disruption you may experience. If you do have any queries or concerns, or would like to speak to someone about this, please call 0300 1234 222 or email us at contracting@cormacltd.co.uk ."
